Social media content creation: a guide for Quebec City businesses

By Marc-Antoine Dubé · October 28, 2026 · Social media content

Everyone knows they should be posting on social media. The hard part is doing it every week without it turning into a second job. In this guide, we explain how small and medium-sized businesses in the Quebec City area can create content that attracts clients: what to post, where, how often, and how to produce it efficiently.

Why video content has become essential

Platforms are now betting on vertical video: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and, more and more, LinkedIn. A short video can reach people who don’t follow you yet, something a simple photo rarely does. For a local business, it’s a way to get known in your area without paying for an ad every time you post.

But content isn’t only about visibility. When a potential client visits your page before calling you, your posts answer their questions: who are you, how do you work, can they trust you?

What to post: the 4 types of content for a business

  1. Expertise: answer the questions your clients always ask. One question, one 30- to 60-second answer.
  2. Behind the scenes: your team, your workshop, a project in progress. It’s often what builds the strongest connection.
  3. Proof: completed projects, before-and-afters, client testimonials (with their permission).
  4. Offers: your services, a promotion, an event. Keep them in the minority: if every post is selling, people tune out.

A good balance to start with: most of your posts on expertise and behind the scenes, the rest on proof and offers.

Which platforms should you be on?

  • Instagram and Facebook: to reach a broad local audience, especially in retail, restaurants and consumer services.
  • TikTok: for discovery. Ideal if your product looks good on video or if you’re targeting a younger audience.
  • LinkedIn: for B2B, recruiting and your leaders’ credibility.
  • YouTube: for longer videos people search for (tutorials, interviews, video podcasts), with Shorts as a way in.

Two well-fed platforms beat five abandoned ones. That said, the same vertical video can go on Reels, TikTok and Shorts with only the caption adapted.

How often should you post?

Consistency matters more than volume. For a small business, two to three posts a week on one or two platforms is a realistic goal. What makes the difference is keeping that pace for months, not posting every day for two weeks and then stopping.

Producing without losing your weeks: batch shooting

The most common mistake is filming day by day, whenever an idea comes up. It’s exhausting and the results are uneven. The method that works: batch your production.

  1. Plan a month of topics at once, based on your clients’ questions.
  2. Shoot in a single session of a few hours: change your shirt and the angle between clips, and you have enough to post for a month.
  3. Edit with captions: many people watch videos with the sound off.
  4. Schedule your posts in advance with Meta, TikTok or LinkedIn tools.

A studio makes this method easier: lighting, sound and set are ready when you arrive. Our studio is available from one hour ($125 + tax), with a cyclorama, backdrops and a lounge area.

Do it yourself or get help?

A recent phone is enough to get started, and many businesses do very well with one. Getting help becomes worthwhile when time is short, when the image quality doesn’t reflect the quality of your services, or when you want a clear strategy rather than random posts.

At Votre Studio Créatif, our team handles the strategy, shooting, editing and formats for each platform. See our content creation service or our TikTok, Reels and Shorts videos.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to see results?

Expect a few months of consistent posting. The first weeks are mostly about finding the formats your audience likes.

Do I have to appear in the videos myself?

It’s not mandatory, but a face builds more trust than a logo. A team member who’s comfortable on camera can also become the voice of the company.

Can I reuse a video on several platforms?

Yes. The vertical format works on TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Just adapt the caption, the hashtags and, if needed, the first few seconds.

How much does content creation cost?

It depends on the number of clips, the shoot and the editing. You can rent our studio from one hour ($125 + tax) and do it all yourself, or leave the production to us: request a quote.
